Unexpectedly, fitness coaching led the speaker to a revelation about learning design: curriculum and training programs are most effective when the relevant skills are scaled. A coach wouldn't ask a new gym member to perform an Olympic lift on their first day of training. In the same vein, instructional designers can't construct meaningful onboarding by focusing solely on core skills. Instead, we must break down those skills into related sub-skills and use them to write scaled excellence statements. This session will challenge you to think about how you define excellence and build toward it—no gym membership required!
Learning Objectives:
Write excellence statements that support the development of a focal skill.
Apply best practices for scaling learning to construct onboarding, reboarding, upskilling, and other training programs.
